With the strong influence of joining The San Antonio Texas Wax Group, I have new tools and had so much fun learning to pour the wax. See my lastest creations:
It's the interaction of color upon color that I really get caught up on. In other mediums, there's moments that only the artist gets to see; how the red slowly turns to purple when a hint of blue is introduced. Similar to when oil meets water, working in wax, allows me to capture those moments when colors collide. By heating up the wax with my iron or heat gun, the liquid state quickly cools to become a solid, holding with it those last few seconds of it's merging together.
As a self trained encaustic artist, I learned to heat and paint with a household iron, which, still today after exploring multiple encaustic techniques, is my favorite type of paint brush.
